Signs are here.
Today there was a chance of 100% rain in Austria … and the weather forecasters were correct about that prediction (first time for everything). Nini and I drove to the club around 8.30 am (we were both planned at 9:30) to see what was going on. Playing indoors it seemed probably seemed like a Binnenhof was open in the club, so we grabbed some balls and got a hit of 25 minutes, which was very useful. The ceilings in the club were low and it was somewhat dark on the inside but not terrible. The court that we were beating was technically the indoor clay, although there was not much clay on the field and it was difficult, dry and a bit slippery.
Around 9.30 am we were told that we were playing at a different location, Nini at 10 a.m. and my game was to follow the 10 -hour games. We drove to the location that was not too far, the Vas Tennisstueberl. The courts seemed clearer than at Warmbad Indoor Courts and the ceilings were higher and there was enough room to run around the three courts at the back and on the sides. I went on almost 11 (one court had a reservation until 11 a.m. and I came to that court).
Today I played Sylvia Reigl from Austria in the second of my four round Robin matches. To the races to the races to the races to the races to the races of the races!). This year I went better from the first point and therefore hit about 3-6 feet deeper in rallies and I won 62 60, although it took 90 minutes and we had a number of long games. She didn’t stay for a photo.
MJ Pachl from Delray Beach and Catherine Morgan from Fort Lauderdale, about 30 minutes apart in Florida played the first round in the 60s with Catherine won in straight sets today. Nini played Ulrike Mattanovich from Austria and won 62 60, played well (Ulrike had a very nice forehand, moved well but did not have much variation).
After tennis we drove to a large Billa market (very luxurious, especially in the deli and products) and of course we both bought chocolate, and various other food before we returned to our apartment. It is now 6.30 am and is still raining, hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
I learned later tonight that a few games are going on at 8 p.m. (2 p.m. games) … we were so lucky that we were one of the first to play today!
