Addin Fonua-Blake has been praised as ‘selfless’ for playing in Cronulla’s breakthrough profit only a few hours after a family burgcase, but the prop says that he only did what his grandfather had wanted.

Now the valued recruit of the Sharks is preparing to honor his last name in his 200th NRL game.

The coaching staff of the Sharks gave Fonua-Blake the option to miss last Friday’s home game against the dolphins after the death of his grandfather Talakai earlier in the week.

Talakai played an important role in the upbringing of Fonua-Blake and had regularly encouraged his grandson of the stands, until traveling to games became too difficult in his later years.

Last Friday, Fonua-Blake was determined to face the dolphins, not just to stimulate the sharks that four of their previous five games had lost, but to pay tribute to his grandfather.

‘I go during the week I had last week, I just thought he would probably want me to play. He was probably one of my greatest fans, “said Fonua-Blake.

“He has contributed a lot to my upbringing. I thought it was only good if I went outside and my last name was proud and bore his name, and just represented him a bit.

“I am extremely proud that I can bear his last name.”

Fonua-Blake impressed his teammates with his decision to play, and eventually helps the side of an essential victory over fellow top-eight hopeful the dolphins.

“He is) just a selfless person,” said Sharks wing player Ronaldo Mulitalo.

‘He put the team in first place all week and did not miss a beat.

“Only the confidence that he gave the group in that dressing room was huge.”

The plug gets another chance to make Talakai proud when he reaches the coveted 200 game milestone against the Sydney schedules this week.

Since his Rookie season with Manly, Fonua-Blake has developed into one of the most important front drivers of the NRL, who appear to be particularly instrumental about the indictment of Warriors to a provisional final berth in 2023.

He has had a mixed first season with hot and cold Cronulla, but will be crucial for the hope of the sharks on a top-day finish such as the alpha mannetje of their forward pack.

“I am very grateful that I get this opportunity (to play a 200th game),” said Fonua-Blake.

‘Not many people do that. I just look forward to going outside and well representing my last name and the club. ‘

The competition is important for the sharks, who hope for successive victories over the parties in the mix for the final.

“It is no secret that we have had one up and down year this year, but I feel that the boys had a little wake-up call,” Fonua-Blake said.

“It would be enormous for us to do this job.”
