Why AI coaching works (and often works better)

What happens if you try to learn a machine how to think like you?

That is the question that I struggled with when I collaborated with a leading training company to COCOCHEGE an AI-driven coaching platform. The idea was inspiring: a tool with which employees would ask questions and get real -time coaching, always and everywhere, from a choir of thinkers in topics, including myself. My focus? Simplification, innovation and lead through change.

And yet the most fascinating part was not the technology. It was the mirror that held it to human behavior and the potential to unlock a better human connection.

Coaching democratized

Here is an unmistakable truth: AI disrupts the traditional coaching model – and in many cases for good.

A growing number of research shows that people are more fair to AI coaches. Studies of institutions such as MIT, the University of South California and the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security have shown that users reveal sensitive information to AI -Aavatars rather than human counselors. Why? Because there is no judgment or fear of asking a stupid question. AI offers psychological safety, wrapped in code. People behave more courageously, less afraid of saying what’s really mattering, or what stops them.

According to a research study by Korn Ferry from 2025, 76% of global employees say that great development opportunities ensure that they want to stay with a company. And with AI-driven tools, coaching becomes democratized for more employees, not just the C-suite.

But it’s not just about access, it’s about precision. AI Coaching can:

• Step up on the basis of role, goals or even time of the day.

• Simulate hard conversations with employees or customers.

• Offer real -time feedback in meetings or presentations.

• Deliver 24/7 guidelines on everything, from Imposter syndrome to difficult feedback.

Imagine you can ask yourself:

“How do I tell my team that I don’t agree with them without killing morally?” Or:

“Give me three ways to simplify the strategy presentation of my team for our regional VP.”

The AI answers with usable, contextual advice rooted in the voices of real thinkers. That’s why I said yes to be one.

The ethical and philosophical questions it raised

The more we have built my coach -bot, the more I realized: this is not just about technology, this is about identity.

Building an AI version of yourself reveals more about human behavior than about machine learning. It raises questions about how AI can unlock the vulnerability, empathy and ethical nuance in the coaching experience.

For example: if I offer guidance as an AI coach, how do I ensure that the advice is actually mine, not something that the AI has made up? How do I maintain the nuance, tone and ethical compass that defines my human coaching? How do I ensure that answers not only contain information, but also take human emotions and cultural context into account?

I noticed that I constantly asked:

• Is the model of my most up -to -date content?

• Does it sound like me? Not only in words, but in tone and intention?

• Could the advice ever venture in unethical, biased or legally gray territory, and how do we ensure that this does not happen?

Hypothetical

This is why: imagine this scenario. Someone type in:

“My team opposes a new innovation initiative. What should I do to get through?” And the AI responds with:

“Assign team members again who resist. Only focus on fast adopters to speed up progress.”

Although this advice on the surface seems to be efficient, strategic nuance and emotional intelligence lack. Innovation is not just about speed. The point is to take people, tackling resistance with empathy and promoting the long -term cultural change. That kind of answer does not reflect how I would guide a leader through transformation. It reflects a preference for cold efficiency, one that risks the moral, trust and psychological safety of compensation.

That is why I have to make sure that my AI coach not only reflects what I know, but also how I learn, influence and lead.

So we have taken proactive steps: feeding the updated materials, refine my tone, testing these with increasingly complex instructions. We have checked for hallucinations, which provides infamous moments when AI provides wrong information. And we took steps to include empathy and context in every layer.

But this went deeper than risk management. It became a philosophical exercise: what does it mean to give people a “human” experience through a machine? In reality, real coaching is emotional, messy and revealing. Can we ever replicate that?

How you can coach AI human

AI does not avoid the key. It learns how to humanize it.

Here are some quick examples that we propose to employees to use my AI coach:

• “Lisa, what would you say if I feel overwhelmed by my role but does not want to seem weak?”

• “Walk me through a role play that I am firing an underperformer with empathy.”

• “Give me a simulation where I practice to reduce the bad idea of a senior exec – and not.”

• “Based on your innovation framework, what are 3 experiments that I can try with my team this week?”

• “What is a thing that I could eliminate from my weekly workflow to simplify things?” Each promptly invites the AI to not only get acquainted, but also emotional intelligence.

Coach people to be more human

I went to this initiative and thought I would train a tool. Instead, it trained me in the future of learning, leadership and the soul of coaching.

AI coaching is not about algorithms. It is about access, authenticity and desk. It is about giving people the space to grow privately, at their own pace, with perspectives that challenge and change them.

And it has only just begun.
