Who is close to a ban or suspension in FPL Gameweek 18?

In the Suspension Tightrope we look at the players who are close to a suspension, have already been suspended or are returning from the naughty step in Gameweek 18.

As we’ll explain below, it won’t be long before Premier League players will be free – at least in the short term – from the consequences of the accumulation of yellow cards.

HOW MANY BOOKINGS RESULT IN A BAN – AND WHEN ARE THE EXCLUSION POINTS?

We have taken the table above from the Football Association website. It describes the limits for the different yellow card thresholds.

What we are concerned about now is the five warning sign. This is an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid that of their team first 19 league matches.

There have been no postponements this season, so that must be the case after Gameweek 19 for all 20 clubs (subject to any cancellations during Christmas!).

Penalties for collecting yellow cards are competition specific, while dismissal suspensions apply to all competitive matches.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

There are nine new additions to the 33-member list.

Everton pair James Tarkowski (Β£5.5 million) and Vitalii Mykolenko (Β£4.9m) are two, for those considering a Toffees defender due to their favorable match swing.

Three Spurs players also joined the list: Micky van de Ven (Β£4.6 million), Richarlison (Β£6.4 million) and Rodrigo Bentancur (Β£5.3 million).

Ibrahima Konate (Β£5.4 million), Nico GonzΓ‘lez (Β£5.9 million), Nikola Milenkovic (Β£5.1 million) and Enzo Le Fee (Β£4.9 million) round out the new registrations.

Antoine Semenyo (Β£7.7 million) and Bruno Guimaraes (Β£7.0m) are among the other household names who have already had four bookings.

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

There are 48 others who have a little more breathing space after three yellow cards.

They would have to be booked in both of the next two Gameweeks to receive a suspension.

Marc Gyoucow (Β£5.3 million), Virgil van Dijk (Β£5.9 million), Igor Thiago (Β£7.1 million) and Phil Foden (Β£8.9m) are among the household names here.

The much sought after Harry Wilson (Β£5.8m) is also on the list.

SUSPENDED IN GAMEWEEK 18

FPL notes: Szoboszlai injury, lock on Salah + Ekitike's form 6

Only one player picked up five yellow cards in Gameweek 17, but it was a telling name: Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai (Β£6.7m), which is part of more than 700,000 FPL squadrons.

He will return in Gameweek 19.

Xavi Simons (Β£6.5 million) and Christian Romero (Β£5.0 million) are both serving bans for the red cards they received on Saturday. Simons has been suspended for three games, Romero for one.

Luke O’nen (Β£4.0m), meanwhile, has one match remaining after a three-match suspension.

Hannibal Mejbri (Β£4.8m) is three games into a four-match suspension for misconduct – but now that he’s off to AFCON, he will serve the remainder of his ban while in Morocco.

Mychailo Mudryk (Β£4.9m) remains suspended indefinitely by the FA.

BACK FROM A BAN IN GAMEWEEK 18

FPL notes: Dunk injury, Ait-Nouri threat + Delap on the bench 4

Casemiro (Β£5.5 million), Yerson Mosquera (Β£4.3 million), Lewis Dunk (Β£4.5 million) and Diego Gomes (Β£4.9m) are all back from suspension in Gameweek 18.
