West Ham’s winless run was extended to four Premier League games after their match at the Amex Stadium ended completely.
The Hammers had taken the lead through Bowen’s opener in the 73rd minute, but were beaten back late on when Georginio Rutter fired in a controversial equalizer. The ball hit Rutter’s arm in the run-up, but the VAR decided not to disallow the attempt.
A win would have lifted Nuno Espirito Santo’s side out of the relegation places and Bowen admits their late setback is difficult to stomach.
“I’m gutted, it feels like a loss,” the West Ham captain told Sky Sports.
“We did so much to take the lead. We sat back too far and invited pressure. You wanted to protect the lead, but we gave them too much. We have a point, but it feels like a loss.”
“We limited most of the games and they didn’t have much to do in goal. The way the manager wants to play, we all bought into that.”
“We put ourselves in a good position and almost scored more goals and then they equalized. They have scored a lot of late goals against us in the past.”
