The Vancouver Canucks don’t really have many players to trade
Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period stopped by TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked about the situation with the Vancouver Canucks and which one players are actually available.

Host: “What did you think of the news out of Vancouver that they are going to look at trading unnamed veteran players Quinn Hughesbecause I look at their roster situation here, Dave and everyone is protected. All contracts they have handed out are trade protected, with the exception of Conor Garland, Filip ChytilAnd Evander Kane; it is limited protection. So I think they can trade him. Kiefer Sherwood would be a nice piece. Everyone at the back is protected. What exactly do they want to do in Vancouver?
Dave Pagnotta: Well, they’re trying to change a little bit, but they have limited pieces, exactly to your point, like eight guys with no movement clauses and partially no trades on top of that. Like Tyler Myers. His name popped up last season and resurfaced a bit this year, but he has a full no-move that won’t turn into a 12-team no-trade list until July 1. That is the expiration of the season on his contract.
If, if they get a few, they go talk to a few teams and find an offer that’s good enough, or something like that, maybe they go to him and say, Hey, would you consider moving a year early? But beyond that, and I’ve been told by people around the league, I’ve contacted some agents representing these players who don’t have move clauses, and they all said they doubt their guys are going anywhere.
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and NHL Expansion
So we saw Allan Walsh tweeting, funny how you talk about speculation when someone has no movement, he’s referring to his client: Filip Hronek on Vancouver. So yeah, right now the two names I’m looking at that will generate the most interest are Conor Garland and Kiefer Sherwood.
Now Garland is in the final year of his contract, the current contract. His extension takes effect on July 1, as it was a six-for-six deal, including a movement clause. If you sign an extension now, the ‘no move’ clause is sometimes added to the final year of the current contract. That is not the case with Garland. It will not come into effect until July 1.
Thatcher Demkowho also signed an extension that included a ban on movement, also applied to this season. He was added this season and I believe (Kevin) Lankinen is also on a no-movement basis. So well done, guys.
But Garland Sherwood, those are guys I’m looking at. I don’t expect there to be much interest in Evander Kane, so I don’t expect a move there. Teddy Blueger would later arouse interest. He is now injured. They need to sign five guys with expiring contracts who will become UFA regulars. And it’s clear these will be some of the players they’ll want to move. But outside of that, that’s it.
NHL Rumors: Predators scout Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks
So you get a decent return for Sherwood, with whom they have not yet discussed a contract. And I’m sure teams will be curious about what kind of deal he wants. And then you have Garland. So let’s see where things go from this side. The other thing is that when you leak this stuff, it also goes hand in hand with trying to light a fire under their asses.”
