If you’re in America, it’s Thanksgiving. If not, I feel sorry for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t participate in today’s question. You see, today is all about being grateful. There are no laws about what you can and cannot be grateful for, which means you can be grateful for meaningless nonsense like your health, family and friends. or you can be grateful for what really matters: cars.
Of course, we can’t be grateful for all cars in general. There are way too many messes to worry about. That’s why on this Thanksgiving day I want to know which car you are grateful for. What vehicle has made the biggest difference in your life? I know it can seem a little strange on the outside to be ‘grateful’ for a car. Like I said, that emotion is usually reserved for important things, but hear me out.
You can be grateful because it provided the necessary transportation when you had no other alternative. You can be grateful because it gave you a place to stay where you had nowhere to go. You can be grateful because it gave you a moment of peace on the drive home after a hard day’s work. It doesn’t have to be anything drastic either. It could be something as simple as being grateful for that specific vehicle that sparks your love for cars.
My choice
For me the answer to this question is simple. The car I am most grateful for is the 2007 BMW Z4 3.0si that I owned until a few months ago. It was the first real driver’s car I ever owned, and it taught me so much: how to drive a manual car, how to deal with heartbreak (it left me stranded twice), how to be a better driver, and even how to better balance a budget to afford needed repairs.
It’s been a few weeks now without a car, and I miss it so much. I know it will certainly be better off with its new owner – someone who will drive it a lot more and enjoy it a lot more than I have in recent years, but that doesn’t change the fact that I long for my little E85. Still, I look back on it fondly and am forever grateful and grateful that it was in my life for those five years, even if it was mostly a headache.
Anyway, that’s really enough from me. How about we all get down there and let your fellow Jalops know which car you’re thankful for this Thanksgiving? Then turn off your phone and be with your family, for the love of Christ.
