When the ABS light turns on, how long is it safe to keep driving? – Jalopnik

It is relatively great to continue your journey when the Amber or Red ABS light is switched on while driving, but you have to be careful while you do this. The ABS light means that the anteloccons may not work correctly, but it does not mean that you have no brakes and the vehicle cannot stop.

The ABS (or Antilock brake system) does exactly how it sounds, so that the wheels cannot be locked when it presses hard on the brakes. Loose wheel bubbles or damaged wheel bearings can also ensure that the ABS light is switched on, because those parts can influence the sensor values.

Most cars have two brake -related warning lights on the dashboard. The Rode or Amber ABS light warns the driver of potential problems with the anti -rock system. There is also a red brake warning light that can be switched on if the low liquid levels, supported brake pads, a relevant parking brake or defective wiring detects.

If the brake warning light highlights after starting the engine, don’t keep driving, have the problem checked immediately. If it is switched on while driving, do not panic: you can still stop the car, although it may require more brake effort. However, it is better to stop, stop driving and to ask for help if both the ABS light and the braking warning light are on, because this can mean a huge mistake with the entire braking system.

The technician will most likely inspect the entire braking system and check whether the pads and shoes are worn, supplement the brake fluid, check the condition of the brake rotors and test the ABS sensors, among other things. For reference, periodic braking maintenance is required at least every 5,000 to 7,000 miles (or twice a year), and the brake pads must probably replace every 30,000 to 35,000 miles.
