What’s next for Alcaraz after winning the Australian Open?

Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete a Grand Slam career when he defeated Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in the Australian Open final on Sunday evening.

The question now – as it is for the one who triumphs in Melbourne every year – is whether he can win all four slams in the same year.

“Well, it will be a big challenge,” Alcaraz said during his post-match press conference. “Those are big words, to be honest. You know, I want it to be one at a time. Right now the next one is the French Open. I have great memories [from] that tournament. Every time I come there I feel very special.

“So I don’t want to put pressure on myself to have to do it…. Right now I will try to be ready, work hard, just recover and practice well to play a good tournament in the next Grand Slam.”

The 22-year-old Spaniard has been terribly well at Roland Garros. He is a two-time defending champion and has a record of 19-1 in his last twenty French Open matches. His only loss during this stretch came to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 semifinals, and that was largely due to significant leg cramps.

Alcaraz has never won more than two majors in one season. He won exactly two in both 2024 and 2025.

Looking to the more immediate future, Alcaraz withdrew from the upcoming Rotterdam ATP 500 on Monday. The world number 1 lifted the trophy on his debut in Rotterdam 12 months ago, beating Alex de Minaur in the final. This year the field still consists of De Minaur, Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
