What we know so far about the case of missing German backpacker Carolina Wilga

There are serious fears for the German backpacker Carolina Wilga, who was missing while traveling solo in the regional West -Australia.
The 26-year-old was last seen around noon on June 29 in a store in Beacon, a small wheat tink of about 300 km northeast of Perth.
Her Mitsubishi bus was found on Thursday, abandoned in the remote cart Hill Nature Reserve, about 150 km from Beacon. The police believe that the vehicle had suffered mechanical problems and was discovered at a considerable distance from all tracks.

WA Police Acting Inspector Jessica Securo told ABC Radio Perth: “Our information so far is that she will probably be lost in that area and possibly run away from its vehicle.”

Wilga traveled and worked in Australia for about two years and recently told friends that she was planning to explore regional wa.

Challenging terrain and freezing temperatures

Karroun Hill Nature Reserve includes more than 300,000 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the southwest of WA. Authorities have described it as “Outback Country”, with large rocky accessings and traces that can be difficult to navigate.

“Although there are a number of tracks, you can see how it would be easy to get lost or disoriented in that area if you didn’t know it,” Securo said.

The temperatures in parts of the region fell under 0 degrees, according to the Bureau or Meteorology, which express concern about exposure and survival. Rain is expected on Saturday, which can further complicate the search efforts.

What does the police investigate?

The police have excluded cheating and believes that Wilga was lost in the outback after her car was set.
They say the van seemed to have been set up for self -sufficient journeys, but was no longer operational.
“The car is clearly self -sufficient … She has solar panels, she has water in the vehicle,” Securo said. “It’s just the vehicle itself is mechanically unable to be used.”
Investigating authorities whether Wilga has included stocks, which could help guide the search.
“It’s hard to say how much she has taken,” Securo said. “We know that she was planning to travel through regional wa and explore something through it.”
A coordinated search is continued, with additional sources, including air support, used in the area.
The police urge everyone with dashcam or drone images from the region or relevant information to contact the authorities.
