IU basketball is organizing a cream and karmozijnrode scrimmage in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall tonight.
The scrimmage, which will not be broadcast or streamed, starts at 7 pm with doors that open at 5:30 pm et. The event is expected to last approximately 90 minutes and will provide four quarters of 10 minutes.
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
Here are three things to watch on Friday evening:
Lamar Wilkerson’s shooting and scoring capacity
IU fans received a first glimpse of Lamar Wilkerson when he came to Bloomington with the Sam Houston Bearkats.
Tonight marks the first chance for the fan base to see Wilkerson playing at Branch McCracken Court with the cream and crifier red.
De Hoosiers have missed a guard with Wilkerson’s shooting and score in the past seasons and it will be no surprise if the resident of Arkansas leads the team in scoring this winter.
When looking at Wilkerson in two exercises this season outside season, it is not difficult to see why he had an average of 20.5 points per game last season.
He excels in reaching his places, whether he plays on or off the ball. And Wilkerson does not need much space to get rid of his shot. He also plays the game with great enthusiasm and intensity.
On an IU selection built with perimeter shooting as a clear focus, Wilkerson will be a center of the attack and Friday marks the first chance for IU fans to get him an up-close-look at him this season.
The ball movement and distance of the attack
A consistent theme in both IU practices that were open to these media this season was the ball movement and distance.
When Darian Devries built the schedule through the transfer portal, he gave priority to players who can shoot, move without the ball and pass.
From Big Man, Bailey, who treats the ball as a guard, to Conor Enright, who had on average more than six assists in Depaul last season, the schedule is full of selfless boys who are willing passers -by.
IU basketball will put much less emphasis on feeding the post under Devries. Instead, the Hoosiers will look to create mismatches with fresh pass, move without the ball and shoot 3-point.
Although they have 10 exercises for the Puerto Rico exhibition trip, together with three exhibition competitions, there is still a lot of pre -season work for the Hoosiers to gel as a team.
But on Friday evening the fan base gives a first look at a new look attack that will be more open and free than the previous eight seasons.
Trent Sisley’s engine and willingness to do the little things
As the only stock market player on the Roster from Indiana, Friday evening will be extra special for first -year student Trent Sisley.
The Santa Claus, Indiana, Native grew up in South Indiana after Iu Basketball and will appreciate what it means to put this season on the IU uniform.
Sisley, a 6-foot-8 attacker, has put himself in position for a rotation roll with his game in Puerto Rico and in practice this fall.
During Tuesday’s open training, Sisley was as active as every player on the floor. He took offensive rebounds. He played selflessly. And he used his size to finish on the edge.
Like most first -year students, Sisley will have growth pains. But his even keel mentality should enable him to navigate through the natural ebb and streams of every basketball season of the college.
With the limited Frontcourt -depth of IU, the Hoosiers Sisley needs to develop into a consistent contribution to rotation. He seems to be well on his way to do that and on Friday Iu -fans will give the chance to gauge his progress.
“We don’t have to trust him completely,” Devries said on Tuesday’s media day. “He doesn’t have to get 20 every night, but he is also a man who can do that. So that’s what I think is crucial for him.
“It is nice to have the supporting cast that he has around him, so that he can continue to grow and do it at a speed where I think he can be very comfortable.”
