Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to return for Australia Tour

Rohit and Virat Kohli had a glorious end to their T20i career when they finished it by winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. However, the same cannot be said about their test retirement, because they experienced an extensive lean patch with the bat. Rohit Sharma announced his test retirement on 7 May 2025 and a few days later, on May 12, 2025, Virat Kohli announced his test retirement.

Rohit and Kohli were last seen in action in international cricket for the Indian team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The duo played pretty well in the competition and helped India to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

In the meantime, they are ready to make their comeback to international cricket in the upcoming ODI series against the National Cricket team of Australia, according to a report in PTI.

BCCI to choose Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Odi Squad on October 4

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Selection Committee will meet on Saturday 4 October to choose the ODI and T20i squadrons for the Australia Tour. They are ready to mention Rohit and Kohli in the ODI team in the midst of intense speculations about their future in the Indian cricket.

“The selectors will probably sit down on Saturday, the third day of the current first test against West -India in Ahmedabad, to choose the squadrons. But there is no clarity about the announcement of the team yet,” read the report in PTI.

Kohli and Rohit recently returned to the training and they worked very hard in the gym and nets to prepare for the Australian tour after he stayed away from competitive cricket. They also passed the fitness tests of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to explain their availability for the ODI series against the Aussies.

Rohit Sharma should not be fired !!

Previously, some reports suggested that the Captain of Rohit is being threatened, whereby the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to hand over the reins to Shubman Gill of the ODI team.

However, the report in PTI claims that the BCCI is not in the mood to dismiss Rohit Sharma because he has consistently performed well with the bat, and the team is also doing well under his leadership.

“There is also no reason to remove Rohit from the leading role, because he has hardly had a failure in this format, unless he wants to concentrate on his batting,” the report added further.

Rohit has been given a lot of weight and has maximized his fitness levels with a view to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be played in African countries. It will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are being considered for the next 50-over World Cup. Currently, however, the BCCI is not worried about it and focuses on the T20 World Cup 2026.

“The priority is currently based on the T20 World Cup early next year, and the achievement of the maximum WTC points of the four home tests in 2025,” the report added.
