Jane Goodall died at the age of 91. She spent her life defending the concept and appreciation of the natural world. In addition, she learned the rest of us what it means to be human.
One of the world’s most important primatologists and conversations, Goodall was an embodiment of dharmaAn Eastern concept that means that you find your goal and allow it to lead your life. Her groundbreaking work in Africa and her non-reversing advocacy offered an example of what it is like to live with intention, despite the ever-changing opinions of others.
By using her voice to speak on behalf of chimpanzees and nature in general, Goodall believed that she was a ship for something bigger. “And I always have this feeling – which may not be true at all – that I become as a messenger,” she wrote in her book, Reason for hope: a spiritual journey. By her writings – including The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Probay Times And much more – together with a lifelong vocal activism, Goodall consistently communicated a need for mindfulness, personal spirituality, radical compassion and of course an unobstructed love for the planet.
Her work and her words will resonate forever.
