‘Tis the season to support the businesses you love. And honestly, what establishment deserves more appreciation than your local yoga studio?
Owning a yoga studio is not particularly lucrative. There are teacher salaries, rent, utilities, props, front desk staff, cleaning supplies, and much more that your studio is responsible for. When you consider how much you get from your time on the mat, supporting your yoga studio offers a natural opportunity are, often translated into services. This is also yoga.
Whether you participate in a Saturday Small Business or simply embrace the spirit of giving that is available to you all year round, you can take certain actions that will strengthen your yoga studio so it can better support you.
10 ways to support your local yoga studio
Be creative! It’s really the thought that counts.
1. Sign up for a membership
It is good for everyone to take more than one class at a time. Investing in a membership or class package will not only save you some money in the long run, it will also make you more likely to return to the studio, while giving the studio some extra financial breathing room.
2. Explore volunteer opportunities
You don’t have to be a yoga teacher to volunteer your talents. Contact the studio owner or manager to see if and how you can help, perhaps by volunteering your social media knowledge, accounting acumen, or whatever other talents you possess.
3. Try a workshop
Yoga studios often put a lot of focus on additional offerings such as workshops, retreats and more, so why not give them a try? And just like with a membership or lesson package, the extra income ensures that the lights stay on.
4. Give a lesson (or a lesson package) as a gift
Do you know someone who is interested in yoga but can’t seem to get to the mat? Ask your studio about purchasing gift cards or certificates so you can help spread the yoga high.
5. Ask for donations
While it’s unlikely that many yoga studios will ask for donations, that doesn’t mean they won’t accept them. Cleaning supplies, props and of course money can all be useful additions.
6. Take an online class
If you’re out of town or just too busy to take an in-person class, opting for a virtual class can be a great option to support your practice and your local studio.
7. Take care of your space
There’s no need to sweep the entire studio or clean the mirrors (although your efforts are probably welcome). But taking some time after class to tidy up your space by returning props, throwing out trash, and maybe even wiping down the area around your mat is respectful and incredibly helpful, because it’s work that someone else doesn’t have to do.
8. Shop the boutique
Those branded tanks and water bottles aren’t just for show. Invest in a few accessories and suddenly you’re a walking advertisement for your studio. And every purchase – whether it’s a gift for yourself or someone else – contributes to the studio’s bottom line.
9. Leave a review
Small business owners know that even a single glowing review goes a long way in convincing other new students to give it a try. Take a moment to wax poetic about what makes your studio special: beloved teachers, class types, environment, and more.
10. Tell your friends
When it comes to yoga, sharing is caring. Instead of guarding your favorite studio, spread the word among friends and family! Take this sentiment to the next level by bringing loved ones to your next class.
