What is your local driving problem? – Jalopnik

Every corner of the world has strange little local driving quirks. But a quirk can be good, it can be bad, or it can be completely neutral; weird road signs or geography all qualify as oddities. Today we’re here to talk about something much more notable: your local driving habits complaints. Yes, it’s time to rant and rave in the comments because I want to hear all the silliness and foibles of the drivers and driving in your area.

Do you live somewhere full of restrictive speed cameras? Does your local driver not know when to use his turn signals? Does your city not have the infrastructure to support thousands of parents as they drop out of college each August and as the kids return home each June? Leave your local driving concerns below and we’ll round up our favorite screeds later this week. Bonus points for truly extraordinary word counts.

The driving problems in New York are unexpected

I famously live in Brooklyn, and my complaint is not with the drivers of New York City. It’s not even about the big traffic, it’s about a few specific people who generate that traffic: tourists. Just last night, as I rode my motorcycle to the gym, I was stuck behind a Maine license plate, clearly terrified of riding in such a dense city as it got dark outside – a fear that manifested itself in their absolute refusal to drive faster than 20 miles per hour. I never really plan on setting any land speed records with a duffel bag on my back, but really? 30 kilometers per hour?

That’s my problem with driving in New York: the people who are just visiting and don’t yet understand how traffic flow works here. Fresh transplants run into a bit of the same problem, but not for very long: Driving in New York is fairly easy and quick to learn, and most seem to pick it up well enough. However, what is your complaint? Leave your answers in the comments below, and we’ll pick our favorites later.
