Western Fold hit an extensive winner of the Tote Galway plate for Gordon Elliott and Danny Gilligan.
Only six, the winner had been successful in his last two outings, but was 10 pounds higher than when he won the Mayo National in Ballinrobe previous Timeout.
Amirite led the field to the last two fences, but that was then Gilligan claimed that he was going ominously well, together with Jesse Evans van Noel Meade, who filled the same position in the plate twice in the Galway hindernis in the Galway Hindernis.
It was all about Western Fold (11-1), who, however, won four and a half length with Shecouldbeanything in third place, a stablemate from the winner.
Elliott and Gilligan were successful two years ago in the album with Ash Tree Meadow, while it was a fifth victory in the race in general for the trainer.
The favorite, Nurburgring, with the aim of becoming a member of an elite list that the obstacle and plate has won, made an early mistake and was never competitive.
“He is a good horse. Bobby O’ryan bought him for David (l’Estrange) and John (Wright, owners) and the boys were very patiently with him, he was a bit backwards when he was young,” Elliott said.
“This race has been the plan for a while, so I am happy that the boys are here, it is a dream for the boys to be here and win the race. Bobby has put together the syndicate, so that all credit has to go to him.
“Everything worked great. Danny got away from the start and the horse jumped like a dollar, I think he just missed one in the dip. Everything went well and it was moving poetry.
“I thought it was (10 pound rise) might be enough to stop him to be honest, I was worried.
“I would say that the ground is the key to this horse, it likes a bit of beautiful soil. He is a very beautiful horse.
‘My father is in the hospital, so he will like to view this and hopefully it will cheer him up.
“He will hopefully play for football in Summerhill on Saturday. He looks at it in the hospital, so hopefully it gives him a lift.”

Sent the 4-9 favorite for his first obstacle since he was during this meeting last season, he obliged in style and achieved an emphatic 11-length victory over Tony Martin’s Zanndabad.

Paddy Power now makes him 7-2 to improve the fifth of last year in the function of York and to offer the Master of Castutton a third victory in the race after Sevelta (2009) and Absurde (2023).
“He came to us last year. He walked a cracker here in Galway and ran a really good race in the Ebor, which I think we will probably go back afterwards,” Mullins said.
“Looking at him who jumped there, he was electric for a horse with his second run about obstacles, which came from Poland. The only jumping he did was in our place.
“His Ebor -Run was a great run. Hopefully we can go back this year, get a little more daylight and stay out of trouble.”
