West Ham United weighs a movement to sign Middlesbrough’s highly appreciated defensive midfielder Hayden Hackney this summer, according to Givemessport.

Since he made his first team debut in the FA Cup Third Round match against Brentford in January 2021, the 23-year-old has been one of the striking players, not only for Boro, but in the EFL championship in the past two seasons.

Last season he was an important player for Michael Carrick, with in 44 games in all matches, because the outfit of North Yorkshire lost with only five points to the Playoff qualification.

His consistent displays in the middle of the park for Boro have not gone unnoticed, with various clubs that make his progress over a possible movement.

West Ham has now emerged as the newest club to show interest in the English U21 star, such as Givemessport Claims that the East London club weigh a possible dive to sign it this summer to strengthen the midfield ranks of Graham Potter.

The defensive midfield -Aas is reserved as a market chance that could be available at a bargain price, and the Hammers are now planning a sleep to sign it this summer, according to the report.

Combatant midfielder

The report adds that Hackney has rejected an opportunity to sign for Ipswich Town, despite the fact that Middlesbrough accepted the £ 20 million bid from the tractor boys. West Ham now wants to take advantage of the situation by starting formal conversations to sign the Englishman, especially after his strong start to the new season.

As it was clear the majority of last season, the midfield of West Ham was flooded in their 3-0 defeat against Sunderland during the opening weekend of the Premier League.

They missed both firmness and creativity, where the black cats found it much too easy to play through the middle. The hammers rarely formed any threat because Sunderland’s enigmatic midfield trio of Granit Xhaka, Noah Sidiki and Habib Diarra consistently closed their progress.

Usually such shortcomings can be tackled by working harder on the training field, but with the upcoming exit of Edson Álvarez to further weaken the team, the transfer market now seems to be their only realistic solution.

With a valuation of £ 20 million, Hackney would be a feasible option to strengthen the midfield of Potter and offer the much needed battles they have missed since last season.
