Manchester United’s victory over Crystal Palace further strengthened their grip on the top four.

It’s no secret that United are determined to overhaul their midfield, and Champions League football will provide INEOS with plenty of room to make multiple additions in the middle of the park.

Interestingly, the financial situation of their Premier League opponents, West Ham, could help the Red Devils address two areas of concern.

Manchester United had a golden opportunity

According to The mirrorWest Ham have admitted they will have to sell players in the summer transfer window regardless of their fate in the Premier League.

18th-placed Hammers have reportedly announced a loss of £104.2 million for the last financial year.

A report in the Manchester Evening News adds that West Ham’s financial problems “could provide United with the perfect alternative to some of the more expensive options.”

It is claimed that United’s “only clear priority this summer” is to sign a midfielder, and the London team’s situation could “open the door for United’s hierarchy to look at Mateus Fernandes.”

Manchester United interested in West Ham duo

Mateus Fernandes is quietly having an excellent season despite West Ham’s problems. The Portuguese midfielder impressed with his powerful ball-carrying and duel-winning ability.

Early this year, The Peoples Person published a report claiming that United are in a position to make a move for Fernandes if West Ham drop back to the Championship.

United are also eyeing a move for Jarrod Bowen. The 29-year-old West Ham fan favorite has scored eight goals and registered four assists in the Premier League, having played all over the front line.

The England winger is thought to view his future as “very open” with both United and Tottenham in the background.

West Ham’s plan is to “demand a significant fee” for their ever-reliable captain. However, given their financial crisis, Nuno Espirito Santo faces the possibility of losing the £52.5m-rated forward for much less, especially if they fail to escape the relegation zone.
