Manchester United is planning a major renovation of the pitch at the end of the season.
While most fans expect reinforcements in midfield, INEOS has plans to upgrade in the goal area as well.
Senne Lammens has proven himself worthy of the number 1 jersey, but the Red Devils want a quality backup given the uncertain future of all three of their current options.
Andre Onana, who is on loan at Trabzonspor, has no future at Old Trafford and will most likely be sold once the window opens.
Two goalkeepers are sold
Altay Bayindir is expected to follow suit, with Besiktas leading the hunt for his signature. Tom Heaton’s contract expires this summer.
That explains why, according to Football insiderthe 20-time English league champions are keen on a back-up to provide competition for their Belgian custodian.
“Man United are making plans to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window as they prepare to let two of their current options leave.
“Andre Onana is currently on loan to Turkish side Trabzonspor and there is a growing feeling that he may leave permanently next summer.
Lammens’ backup is being recruited
“Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir is believed to be closing in on a move away from Old Trafford, with Besiktas the main contender for his signature.
“Senne Lammens has established himself as the undisputed number one under Michael Carrick, and any summer signing is likely to be a back-up for him.”
Academy graduate Radek Vitek is on fire at Bristol City and there are rumors he could be included in the first-team squad next season.
Whether that would stagnate its growth is an entirely different question. It will be interesting to see which goalkeeper is ultimately called up.
