The mid-century house at 2 Wattle Ave, Werribee, sold this weekend.
An interstate buyer has snapped up a Werribee home he only saw in person at a Saturday auction.
The Queensland man loved the character of the three-bedroom mid-century home so much that he didn’t consult his partner before placing the winning bid of $946,000.
But happily, Hocking Stuart director Justin Tong said the buyer’s partner was delighted when he called her after the auction.

The man, who is moving to Victoria to be with his partner, was one of three bidders for the home at 2 Wattle Ave, which had a reserve price of $890,000.
Mr Tong said five buyers registered for the auction, but two were not given a chance to bid.
The buyer described the house as “right up his alley and something unique compared to what else is available,” Mr Tong added.
The man had only seen the online listing of the property on Saturday.
More than 115 groups viewed the house prior to the auction, convinced by the swimming pool, the separate studio and the location near shops, cafes and various schools.
The house dates from the sixties.
Current owners Malcolm and Gillian Bindon added the studio next to the pool.
The Bindons renovated the wet areas of the house, including the kitchen.
Owners Malcolm and Gillian Bindon renovated the property after purchasing it about 12 years ago.
Mr Bindon said at the time that he saw the potential of the mid-century home, although his wife initially did not like the 1960s house.
“You couldn’t see the house through the garden. I cut down nine trees because the house was just completely surrounded by big trees and an overgrown garden,” he said.
The renovation involved demolishing a detached internal wall and modernizing the kitchen to let in more light, although the couple were keen to retain the home’s original style.
There are two bathrooms in the house.
The house is close to the restaurants, supermarkets and Bunnings of Watton St, while Werribee Primary School, MacKillop College, Werribee Secondary College and College Road Kindergarten are all within 2km.
“We’ve also redone all the wet areas, fitted glass mirrored cupboards so you have plenty of storage, remade the sunken bath and just updated it with new tiles and everything,” Mr Bindon said.
He also installed the studio for use as a workshop, gym and home entertainment setup, where the couple’s two children, who have now grown up and moved away, enjoyed spending time with their friends.
Mr Bindon said he and his wife were planning to downsize and travel.
