We will soon travel to Korea – Time for research and planning! – Travel Friday

Gah, the well -known pier in the stomach is back. In a few weeks I will be in Korea with my podcollega Lisa! The aviation tickets had already been booked this spring after a spontaneous case of Lisa (is grateful to her that I can go on her sour escape points).

Last week Lisa and I met at Söder for an event followed by POD planning. Then we settled in an outdoor restaurant to submit to the travel route that we started a few weeks ago. It was high time to book train tickets with the fast train from Seoul to Busan …

… which was not a simple story. It took a while before we finally downloaded a train app (Korailtalk) and supplemented with information from the official Korail website. Now we have hopefully Tickets are ready for a road anyway – the tickets back to Seoul have not yet been released. I feel a sort of feared joy about the adoption of a country that I have pretty bad at. Fortunately I have experts in the family to consult!

Korean Culture Festival 2024 Kungsträdgården

My ten -year -old Nelly is obsessed with Korea and has read everything she has come across in the past year about the music, culture and language of the country.

Last year we went together at a Korean cultural festival in Kungsträdgården, where Nellan and her pear -friend lived life between KPOP bands and Korean crafts.

I am a bad look at Korea, but I stop too full for the trip! Korea has a long and varied history and it is not easy to keep up with the turns. After the festival last year I went home and wrote a fast version for the blog:

At the beginning of the nineteenth century, Korea was annexed to Japan, an appendix that lasted until the end of the Second World War. In the same spirit, the country was divided into two parts, north and south, between the Soviet Union and the United States. The intention was that Korea would eventually become an independent country. During an election in 1948, a President supported by the US was chosen for Republic of Korea (known to us as South Korea). In the same year it was declared Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (known to us as North Korea).

A few years later, in 1950, the Korean war was started in the light of the invading South Korea. In 1953 it was a ceasefish -fires that prevailed (the war is still underway and the border between the countries is followed by UN soldiers). Apparently the official function is that North and South Korea is not strange to a future reunion.

Memorials I have written in recent days

During the trip to Östersund last week I had the pleasure of walking a business owner from Korea. I took the opportunity to ask some questions while I made some quick notes about my mobile:

  • Koreans are called Asia Greeks.
  • 1/3 of the inhabitants live in Seoul.
  • There are special markets for everything! So really everything you can imagine (try to go one).
  • The chopsticks are in metal (plus long spoon).
  • Kimchi is a quality stamp in all restaurants. If Kimchin is good, the restaurant is good, point end.
  • Tips about places to visit: Soraesan (known Mountain Peak and National Park in South Korea). There are good footpaths here!
  • “San” means Berg.
  • Go to Bulguksa -Temple. A little touristy but fun!
Tips Östersund Restaurant

Later that evening my friend and Korean food ate in the Restaurant Astrid in Östersund. One of the dishes we got stuck and ordered “SSAM” And according to the waiter is a Korean equivalent of tacos. We have different bowls with, among other things, salad leaves that we then filled with pork, rice and different sauces. Good? Soooo good.

The travel fever starts to crawl further and the pepper is total. Soon we will go to Seoul!

Do you have tips about traveling to Korea? In that case I will receive them with great gratitude!
