Though he couldn’t control his smile, Rahul revealed that Hari had suggested the wicketkeeper-batsman to spin the coin with his left hand instead of his right.
“What worked for me today? We had our analyst Hari who gave me a few tricks. He asked me to spin it from my left hand and cross my right hand. At this point, I mean, before the toss, there are a lot of superstitions and a lot of things that everyone has said,” Rahul said in the video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Rahul also said that he followed Hari’s suggestion instead of teammate Virat Kohli’s. He concluded by expressing his happiness at being able to call immediately on the toss.
“Virat gave me a different opinion. I stuck with Hari because he said the same thing in the last match and he was the most pushy of everyone, so I said, ‘Okay, let’s give it a try. How bad can it be? We lost 20 throws. 21 might not be that bad.’ So yes, I went in with no expectations and I am happy that we won the toss,” he added.
India chose to play first at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on December 6. The decision also paid off, with the Proteas bowled out for 270 in 47.5 overs.
