Wake Forest Basketball names Steve Weinman New GM

Wake Forest Athletics announced on Thursday that Steve Weinman, who has spent in the front office of Chicago Bulls for the past 13 years, has been appointed as a senior associated athletics director for Analytics.

In this role, Weinman will also serve as general director of both the basketball programs for men and ladies, which provides direct strategic and operational support for coach Steve Forbes and coach Megan Gebbia.

“From the moment I started Wake Forest this spring, it was a pleasure to work with two basketball coaching staff that have been so hospitable and are open -minded in how they think about the game, both in terms of schedule construction and game strategy,” Weinman said in a statement.

“I am very appreciated for both Staf, Dean Annette Ranft and Vice-President and director of Athletiek John Currie and the Athletics Administration for offering the opportunity to put together puzzles to support our student athletes in the best position to succeed.”

Weinman, graduated in 2010 at the University of Missouri, joined the Wake Forest staff after having recently been as vice -president of basketball strategy and analysis and assistant – -generally director of the Bulls.

Weinman to serve as an executive branch at the School of Business

In his role as general director of the Basketball Programs of Wake Forest, Weinman will collaborate with the head coaches of each program for the development of the schedule, including recruitment strategy, transfer portal evaluation, allocation of resources and planning.

Weinman will also work directly with representatives from basketball students athlete agent.

In addition, Weinman will serve as an Executive branch at the Wake Forest School of Business, build and manage a formal partnership with the shared goal to develop “a sports analysis concentration” within the Master’s in Business Analytics (MSBA) program, according to the News item.

“This partnership between athletics and the school of business reflects the deep dedication of Wake Forest for interdisciplinary cooperation and innovation,” said President Susan R. Wente.

“By bringing the expertise of an experienced NBA director together with the academic power of our business and analysis programs, we create new paths for student involvement, competitive excellence and national leadership in the future of university athletics.”

Weinman to design the analysis of new Wake Forest Athletics Vertical

Weinman will also be responsible for creating an “extensive vision” for a new Wake Forest Athletics’ analyzes and Business Intelligence structure to support all 18 Wake Forest Athletics programs, activities and revenue units.

The data infrastructure offers all head coaches and leaders of unity at Wake Forest the opportunity to “use resources and talent on campus for modeling, reporting, decision-making and performance strategy.”

During his term of office at De Bulls, Weinman led the Basketball Analytics department of the organization and provided data driven insights to support scouting, drafting, game preparation and trade analysis.

He also served as the internal authority of the team on the salary limit and collective negotiation agreement.

Before he came to the Bulls, Weinman worked at the NBA Corporate Office in New York, where he provided advanced analyzes and statistical modeling for both the League and the then development competition (now G League).
