The incident took place during the Khaled Memorial Second Division Screening Tournament, a local competition held at Suaka cricket ground near Sairang railway station, close to Aizawl. Lalremruata represented Venghnuai Raiders Cricket Club (VRCC) in a match against Chawnpui ILMOV Cricket Club.
According to officials and eyewitnesses, the cricketer experienced discomfort after completing his batting and complained of chest pain while walking back to the pavilion. Moments later he fell to the ground and lost consciousness. Despite receiving medical attention, he could not be revived and was later declared dead.
The Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) confirmed Lalremruata’s death and stated that he had suffered a stroke during the match. Terming it a loss for cricket in the state, the association extended its condolences to the cricketer’s family and loved ones.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. May God comfort them as they cope with this great loss,” the association said.

Lalremruata had represented the state twice in the Ranji Trophy and seven times in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was also actively involved in local cricket and played for several clubs over the years, contributing to the development of the sport at the grassroots level.
Mizoram’s Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also expressed deep sadness over the cricketer’s death. In his condolence message, Hmar stated that Lalremruata had breathing difficulties during the match before collapsing.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of K Lalremruata, who collapsed during a cricket match today. My sincere condolences go out to his heartbroken family, friends and members of the sports fraternity at this difficult time,” Hmar said.
