Virat Kohli sent a Test comeback message amid India’s struggles under Gautam Gambhir

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batsman, Shreevats Goswami, has shared an emotional post on X amid the India National Cricket Team’s struggles in Test cricket.

Shreevats Goswami stated that legendary captain Virat Kohli should have continued playing his favorite format as he made India a dominant force in red-ball cricket.

Ideally, Virat Kohli should have stopped playing ODIs – Shreevats Goswami

Modern batting great Virat Kohli is currently only active in international cricket as a single-format player as he has already retired from Test and T20I cricket.

Kohli plays just 50-over matches for the India National Cricket Team, and he was last seen in action during the Australian tour, where he registered back-to-back ducks before smashing a half-century in the Sydney ODI.

Virat Kohli will next be seen in action in the upcoming home ODI series against the South African National Cricket Team but before that, his decision to quit Test was called wrong by his former teammate Shreevats Goswami.

During India’s horror show in the ongoing Test series against the Proteas, Shreevats Goswami told X that Test cricket misses Virat Kohli a lot and he should have continued playing the format.

“Ideally, Virat should have left playing ODIs and continued playing test cricket until he had nothing left to give. Test cricket misses him. Not just as a player, but just the energy he brought with him, the love and passion he played with, where he made the team believe that they can win under any circumstances. #INDVSA,” Shreevats Goswami wrote on X.

Notably, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, 2025 after a storied career that spanned from his debut on June 20, 2011 to January 3, 2025 (his last Test match).

He will bat at number 4. Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli used to bat at number 4 – Parthiv Patel on Dhruv Jurel

In a recent interaction on Star Sports, former Indian gloveman criticized young batsman, Dhruv Jurel, who is at number 4 in the Guwahati Test, saying he played a bad shot to fall for an 11-ball duck against Marco Jansen.

“Even if the Tea break had not been close, this shot would not have been an issue. He rightly plays as a batsman because he has scored a lot of runs. However, here he had no control at all. Generally, if the ball is outside the right shoulder of a right-handed batsman and you try to play it on the leg side, you have no control. That ball usually goes into the air, and that is what happened here,” said the cricketer turned commentator.

“Secondly, when you play against Marco Jansen, you have to take into account the extra bounce because he is so tall. He has lost a third chance in a row. He is batting at number 4. Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli used to bat at number 4. Shubman Gill is now batting at number 4. He has also scored a lot of runs,” he added.

The draw shot is Dhruv Jurel – Cheteshwar Pujara’s forte

Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara acknowledged that the pull shot is Dhruv Jurel’s strength but added that the youngster needs to carefully plan against which bowlers to perform that shot.

“The pull shot is Dhruv Jurel’s strength. However, if it is your strength, you must also understand which bowler you are playing that shot against. You can still understand his two dismissals in the first match as the wicket was not that good and he batted under pressure,” he said.
