This gave 19-year-old Vidovich her 100th success – and her 96th in a remarkable 2025 season.
“I still have a lot to learn,” she said, explaining that she doesn’t come from a running background. “Having a claim certainly helped, and now with this win I have lost the claim.”
Vidovich had her first ride for the mighty Aiden De Campo stable, and Dame Valour, the $3.90 second favorite, started from No. 1, thanks to Vidovich’s claim and preference for mares.
Dame Valor won the start and after a modest lead of 37.5 sec. and comfortable opening time of 30.9 sec. and 30.5 sec. she sprinted home strongly with the last 400 meters of 28.3 seconds. and 28 sec. in which she won by a neck from the fast-finishing Infinite Sign ($14), while veteran Cordero ($23) enjoyed an inside passage to ring the bell from seventh to finish third, just ahead of $3.20 favorite Mikis Pride, who withered after a race without cover.
Dame Valour, a six-year-old by Sweet Lou, is the fourth foal out of Brush With Courage, who won the Western Crown for two-year-old fillies in May 2010 before retiring with earnings of $33,895 from three wins and two seconds from nine starts.
LADY VALOR-REPEAT
About 40 minutes after Dame Valour’s victory, her younger half-sister Snakey Bay set the pace for young rider Lachlan Kennelly, winning a 2185m event at Wagin.
Dame Valour, raced by Rob Tomlinson, Damien Keating and Peter Morris, was bought for $58,000 at the 2020 Perth APG yearling sale and has now earned $123,420 from 11 wins, ten seconds and three-thirds from 40 starts.
Tomlinson and Keating are co-owners of Maungatahi, who had odds of $8.80 ($18 on the fixed odds market) to win the RAC Members Pace over 2.536m for trainer-leader Dylan Egerton-Green.
Maungatahi led the first 440 meters and then followed the leader Sorridere ($3.40) before storming to the front 100 meters from the finish. Trained and ridden by Aiden De Campo, Sorridere is owned by Tomlinson, Keating and Morris.
