Fremont, California (KGO) – Surveillance video made thieves with the help of a kind of power tool to try to break into a safe in a Hindu temple in Fremont.

Members of the SVCC temple in Fremont say around 2:15 Tuesday morning, three people broke into their place of worship.

On Tuesday afternoon, priest and manager Skanda Kumar let us around and pointed to the money offered to gods who were stolen.

“This is what they took – about seven of them,” said Kumar.

Kumar estimates that $ 2,000 was taken, but it could be more.

He showed us the security video. The suspects try to safely enter the metals with the help of an exercise or saw with sparks that fly on and out for more than three minutes.

“I felt really sad and I was afraid it would come on fire, but it didn’t,” said Kumar.

We spoke with Prisad Ramakrishnan who works volunteers at the temple.

“You feel violated, you feel your personal space and this is not our personal space – this is a space for the gods and for the devoted,” said Ramakrishnan.

On a typical Tuesday evening he said that around 200 devoted come to the temple.

“Whether it is a temple or a church, it is a place of worship and we want to ensure that people who come here feel safe,” said Ramakrishnan.

He explained that the money that was stolen was directly from members of the community donating for offers but also religious procedures.

“Every week we have hundreds of meters of garlands made,” said Ramakrishnan.

The temple buys fresh flowers, fruit and other decorative items. Members said this is not the first time that the SVCC temple has been broken into, but it is the worst.

“It is important to the public to know that this is happening. And they must be safe,” said Ramakrishnan.

They have submitted a police report for this burglary and earlier.

We have contacted the Fremont police and are still waiting to hear again.
