Vicario makes surprising Spurs confession after loss at Arsenal

Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario admitted they “didn’t fight” against Arsenal after losing 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard opened the scoring in the first half before Eberechi Eze added two more with a pair of excellent strikes.

Richarlison pulled one back with a daring lob over David Raya’s head, but Eze stabbed it with his third of the night.

“It was a very bad evening for us,” Vicario told Sky Sports. “First of all, we must apologize to the people who support us and travel expecting to see a fight because as a collective we did not fight.

“That is non-negotiable when you participate in a football match, especially at this level.

“But now it’s a tough night, it’s a very tough defeat, but we have to stick together because we know what we have to tackle.

“We have another big night on Wednesday. We have to stick together and believe in ourselves, because tonight we didn’t show anything that we are normally capable of.

“I know emotions are high when you lose such a derby, but we have to keep a cool head.”

Thomas Frank did not go as far as Vicario in assessing Spurs’ lack of fight, but did admit his side failed to win the battle on the pitch.

“I have seen a lot of fight and character in this team [in the past] but one big thing we didn’t do well enough was win the games,” he said.

“We can call that whatever we want to call it, but we have won too few matches.”
