The Utah Jazz didn’t play on Christmas, and there’s no telling when their next Christmas game will be. However, several Jazz alumni were on the NBA’s Christmas Day list, including Donovan Mitchell and Jordan Clarkson. Mitchell’s magic was almost enough to give Cleveland the victory, but regardless, Jazz foe Vernon Maxwell used Mitchell’s performance to fire a shot at the Jazz.
After the Cavaliers-Knicks game ended, Maxwell used Mitchell’s performance to compare playing in Utah to being in prison. At the same time, it’s not like Maxwell exactly had glowing things to say about Cleveland.
Donovan Mitchell is reminiscent of someone who was wrongly imprisoned for years and is now free and has a new lease on life. I know being in Cleveland isn’t something to be proud of, but it’s still better than being in Utah. Merry Christmas my people!

This may anger Jazz fans, but at this point they can’t be surprised if Maxwell finds an excuse to bash/mock the Jazz, their fan base or the state of Utah, he’ll take it without hesitation. Because of how predictable it all is, fans shouldn’t be offended at this point if they know it’s coming.
Mitchell has improved, but hasn’t accomplished more in Cleveland
Mitchell had a beastly performance for the Cavaliers, putting up 34 points on 12-for-25 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and four three-pointers. Not to mention, he had quite the dunk and ridiculous three in the final seconds of the game.

The loss to the Knicks puts the Cavaliers at 17-15, a big drop from last season where they looked like the team of destiny until the game. factual team of fate, Indiana, thwarted their plans. None of the Cavaliers’ problems were with Mitchell. In fact, he is posting his best numbers as a professional this season.
And yet it hasn’t mattered at all as Cleveland is in the midst of its worst start in the Mitchell era. by far. You can argue that Maxwell’s comparison is technically sound, that it would have been better for him to become a Cavalier in terms of individual performance. From a team perspective, however, things have not only stayed the same with Mitchell since switching teams, but are arguably worse for him in Cleveland.
It was the right move for Utah to move him, even if the Jazz didn’t exactly reap the rewards of the trade. At least not three years after the deal was made. However, things are starting to look pretty bleak in Cleveland, so it won’t be long before Utah starts making a lot of money on the Mitchell deal.
It’s not his fault that things went wrong for the Cavaliers, but because things have gone in the right direction, the Jazz are in a great position to take advantage of what the Cavaliers have given them. Much to Vernon Maxwell’s chagrin, we know for sure.
