September 2 – After weeks of excitement and disappointing results, Wouter Vandenhaute offered his resignation as chairman of the Belgian club RSC other attaches.
Last week, the premature exit of the European club match and a 2-0 defeat in the local derby against Union St. Gilloise fans led to protest against Vandenhaute, who said on Monday that he will give up his role. His dismissal is subject to confirmation from the board of other law during a meeting on Friday and is not a foregone conclusion.
In a statement, Vanden Haute wrote: “This is the only logical choice, especially because even with good results the climate around me has become unbearable.”
Relations between Vandenhaute and majority shareholder Marc Coucke had deteriorated to the point of open conflict. VANDEHATE wrote: “Unfortunately I have not been able to close in recent years, especially since I could not convince the majority shareholder that the club is going in the right direction and that success will follow.
“In recent months I had to conclude that this alienation went from bad to worse, and when … an hour before the match against Union, the majority shareholder immediately addressed the fans, without the knowledge of the club, I realized that giving up my mandate itself was the only option that was left.”
In 2017, Coucke, who previously owned KV Oostende, acquired different after a bidding war with Vandenhaute. Three years later, Vandenhaute became an advisor at other attachment before entering the role of the chairman.
As a minority shareholder and president, Vandenhaute took the controversial decision to dismiss Vincent Kompany in 2022 as a manager, a movement that deepens the instability of the club. The following year he announced that he would take a step back to the position of non-executive chairman.
On Monday, Coucke responded to Vandenhaute’s offer to resign and said: “A few months ago, things broke off. Something like the drop of the camel broke, with regard to the vision and future of the club. Yet we remained the best interests of the club in heart and soul. After what was unfortunately a bad week for the club, a new chapter will start.
“RSCA has to come back to the top, together with the fans, together with the unique Neerpede, together with the staff and the players, together with the employees, together with you all.”
