Virgil van Dijk has named a position after him by the former club William II, who hope that his constant involvement “our youth players will show that dreams are feasible.”
The influence of Van Dijk spreads further than the field and even beyond Merseyside, where the Dutch captain is heading for the Rebranded Virgil’s Legacy Trophy tournament this summer.
The Home of Willem II, the U13S tournament, will take place this month in Tilburg.
And to mark the opportunity, Willem II has that renamed the main standard In their youth stadium to the Virgil van Dijk Tribune.
“Virgil means so much for Willem II and our youth academy,” explained general director Merijn Goris.
“We wanted to give him something.
“This tribute is not only a thank you for reducing the international youth tournament, but also an inspiration for our youth players.
“Virgil is the perfect example of what hard work and perseverance can lead. With this tribute we show our youth players that dreams are feasible.”
Van Dijk spent 11 years in the Academy on Willem II before he left for FC Groningen in 2010, making him his professional debut shortly thereafter.
From there he went to the UK for Stints at Celtic and then Southampton before he defined £ 75 million to Liverpool in 2018.
Now that the bracelet in Anfield is wearing, Van Dijk is generally considered one of the best and most important players in the history of the club.

He said about this week’s honor: “It makes me incredibly proud that the standard at the youth academy is named after me.
“Willem II played an important role in my life and in my development as a young player. That this is now recognized in this way means a lot to me and my family.
“It is a very special tribute and I appreciate the warmth and connection that I still feel with the club.”
Liverpool will be confronted with Bayer Leverkusen, Paris Saint-Germain and Willem II in group B of the Legacy Trophy of Virgil, which will take place this weekend (13 and 14 September).
