Vacheron Constantin has just added some new styles to the overseas line-up with two new views of the eternal Ultradun calendar, both shed light on the mix of sporting functionality and luxurious style of the collection. One comes in pink gold with a tone-on-tone golden dial, the other in white gold with a special Burgundian lacquer dial. Each measures 41.5 mm but remains impressively slim at just 8.1 mm thick, making them surprisingly subtle on the wrist for such complicated pieces. Details such as a matching moon phase, careful finish in the cases and Di Wise textures that catch light showcase of Vacheron Constantin’s expertise in haute horology.
Of course the real show is inside. Both feeding is the internal caliber 1120 QP/1, an ultra -thin self -winding movement that takes on the most complex challenges of the eternal calendar. This small engine follows the date, day, month, jump year and moon phase without correction until the year 2100, which is about as close as horology is “setting and forgets.” The movement is only 4.05 mm thick but consists of 276 components. Turn the watch over and you will see the 22K Gold Rotor through a Sapphire Caseback, complete with a compass rose motif that closes back with the travel-inspired roots of the overseas.
Both models are equipped with the Quick-Change belt system from Vacheron, which means you can exchange tools from the fixed gold bracelet to rubber tires in seconds. The Pink Gold version comes with white and blue belts, while the white gold model contains white and burgundy options, so that you can go from formal to relaxed without missing a beat. It is a practical touch that distinguishes the overseas from many other eternal calendars, which are often more suitable for safes than daily wear.
