The clinic took place at the Continental Tennis Center in Miami, a facility managed by the David Ensignia Tennis Academy, and brought together wounded warriors, coaches and community leaders through the power of adaptive tennis.
A group of wounded warriors participated in the clinic, many experiencing wheelchair tennis in a structured setting for the first time. Jim Tierney, an experienced tennis coach and volunteer, led the on-court instructions, guiding participants through the basics of wheelchair tennis, emphasizing encouragement, patience and enjoyment of the game. He was joined by Bill Hannigan and David Ensignia pro, whose support and hands-on involvement helped create a welcoming and positive environment for all participants.
USTA Florida Tennis Service representative Bill Hannigan also shared how wheelchair sports have had a positive impact on his own life. His perspective and personal experience reinforced the importance of adaptive sports as a tool for physical and mental well-being.
The event also marked the kick-off of an exciting new initiative for the Wounded Warrior Project, made possible by a generous $1 million donation from the Embassy of the State of Qatar. This important gift will help expand adaptive sports opportunities for Warriors throughout Florida and provide access to a variety of programs.

His Excellency and members of his delegation joined the participants.
To add to the significance of the day, His Excellency and members of his delegation joined the participants on the court, got into a wheelchair and tried their hand at wheelchair tennis. Their willingness to participate and engage firsthand highlighted the inclusivity of wheelchair tennis, regardless of your abilities.
The clinic served as a powerful reminder of tennis’s ability to bring people together, break down barriers and create lasting impact. For the Warriors, coaches and partners involved, it was a truly meaningful day celebrating the resilience, inclusivity and continued growth of adaptive tennis in Florida.
