Italians Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Flavio Cobolli will take the court as an action on the third round at the US Open, wrapping on Saturday. Musetti and Cobolli go against each other, while Sinner is opposite Denis Shapovalov.
(1) Jannik Sinner vs. (27) Denis Shapovalov
Sinner looks just like a player who is number 1 in the world and has won three consecutive Hard-Court Grand Slams. The 24-year-old Italian dropped a total of 11 games in six sets during the throwing away of Vit Kopriva and Alexei Pofyrin. Sinner is now 13-1 in his last 14 games that goes back to Wimbledon, with his only loss due to retirement in the Cincinnati final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Next for the title defender in the third round on Saturday is a second meeting with Shapovalov, who won their only earlier meeting in five sets on the Australian Open 2021. Since then only the sinner has started. Shapovalov was decent when he is healthy, but he never observed the hype that surrounded him as a teenager. The 26-year-old Canadian, who has defeated Marton Fucsovics and Valentin Royer so far in New York, is in 29th place in the ranking. The Flair from Shapovalov can provide a number of fun points, but it is unlikely that the match as a whole will be competitive.

(10) Lorenzo Musetti vs. (24) Flavio Cobolli
Musetti vs. Cobolli is a huge all-Italian matchup in which the winner will be a tough favorite to reach the US Open quarterfinals in a part of the draw that Jack Draper was fired. Surprisingly, it is the first on the Pro Tour between the two 23-year-old countrymen. Cobolli can hang with Musetti from a talent perspective. The World No. 26 has been in excellent form since a slow start of the season, emphasized by titles in Bucharest and Hamburg (Clay), a quarter -final run in Wimbledon (grass), and also good luck on hard courts. Cobolli is the essence of a player with an All-Court.
Unfortunately for the No. 24 Seed, he comes back-to-back five Setters against Francesco Passaro and Jenson Brooksby. Combined, those games lasted eight hours and 14 minutes. Musetti, on the other hand, quickly worked quickly by Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and David Goffin. When healthy (as it is now), the World No. 10 is one of the best players on tour since last summer. Musetti is more than able to slaughter an opponent who has to run on vapors.
