Daniil Medvedev received a fine of $ 42,500 on Wednesday by the US Open – more than a third of his $ 110,000 prize money of this year’s singles during the tournament – for his collapse after a photographer had been to the court on Match Point.

Tournament referee Jake Garner has moored Medvedev $ 30,000 for unsporting behavior and another $ 12,500 for racket abuse. When the first game ended on Sunday in the defeat for Medvedev, he repeatedly hit a racket against his chair and destroyed the equipment.

Medvedev, the US Open Champion in 2021, was angry when chairman -referee Greg Allesworth opponent Benjamin Bonzi granted another first serve after the photographer’s interruption.

Bonzi was on Match Point and led 5-4 in the third set, when the photographer-Wiens reference was later moved the side of the field just after an error.

Allesworth said to the photographer to leave the court and then announced that Bonzi would get another first -service because of the delay. Medvedev approached the civil servant to complain and it quickly got out of hand. The crowd started to fascinate and sang, “Second Serve!” The game was stopped for more than six minutes when Medvedev became the fans and Allesworth insulted.

“Are you a man? Why are you vibrating? He wants to go home boys, he doesn’t like to be here. He is paid for by the game, not by the hour,” Medvedev shouted.

When the order was restored, Medvedev finished that set – and also the fourth. But Bonzi won 6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 0-6, 6-4.

It was the third consecutive Grand Slam loss of Medvedev in the first round, including last month in Wimbledon against Bonzi.
