Venus Williams bowed from the US Open After she and the Canadian partner Leylah Fernandez were surpassed by top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova 6-1 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles on Tuesday (September 2, 2025).
Townsend and Siniakova, reigning Australian Open Champions, only needed 22 minutes to wipe the opening set and quickly built an inviolable lead in the second, broke again after the long first service game of Williams and Fernandez.
Despite the roar of support for the North -American duo of the Louis Armstrong Stadium -public, Williams and Fernandez were overwhelmed, with Townsend and Siniakova who dictated the game from start to finish.
The victory sent the top seeds to the semi -final, where they will meet fourth seeds Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens.
Even in the defeat, the American veteran took admiration from her opponents.
“It is difficult to describe it in words, it is a privilege. She is a legend and I really enjoyed it,” Siniakova said to Venus, who claimed 14 Grand Slam Doubles -titles that combine with her sister Serena.
The American 29-year-old Townsend added: “Growing up to Venus and Serena was an inspiration for me and my sister. We really wanted to be the way they grew up, so it’s an honor to share the court with her today.”
While Williams and Fernandez waved at the crowd, their farewell to Armstrong reminded everyone why Venus remains one of the most sustainable icons of sport.
