Residents in Noord -Yorkshire told you to cook their tap water after tests revealed that the high levels of bacteria contained in faeces.
The cooking water message was published by Yorkshire Water for customers in High Bentham, Low Bentham and Burton in Lonsdale areas.
Affected customers must cook their tap water before they drink it, use it to brush their teeth or to wash salad, the company said.
Yorkshire Water has issued the notification after routine tests the presence of high levels of coliform bacteria detected during routine tests.
Coliform bacteria are often found in the digestive systems of animals and people and include organisms such as E. Coli.
Although most coliform bacteria will not make people seriously ill, their presence in water resources is considered a warning that other, more dangerous but more difficult to detect, pathogens can also be present.
This includes cryptosporidium, a potentially deadly parasite that can cause colon cancer -like symptoms.
Yorkshire Water said: ‘We regularly check our drinking water to ensure that it meets our high standards and during routine tests we found the water supply in High Bentham, Low Bentham and Burton in Lonsdale did not meet our usual standards.

“While we are investigating this, we ask all customers to cook their water as a precautionary measure to keep everyone safe.”
The company also advised people who feel unwell in the coming days to inform their doctor about the cooking message.
It added that boiling water should be sufficient to eliminate one of the potentially harmful organisms present and that buying bottle water is not necessary.
However, stocks of bottle water are distributed at certain locations if residents are unable to cook supplies at home for whatever reason.
Anyone who is affected by the cooking water message was delivered by hand a form, the company added.
