The man accused of acid on a young teacher in the Sambhal of Uttar Pradesh was injured in a police -meeting and then arrested late on Thursday evening, the police said.
The accused, identified as the 30-year-old Nishu Tiwari, was shot in his legs after he had opened fire on officers near the village of Kalyanpur. He was later admitted to the Sambhal District Hospital for treatment.
The incident came two days after Tiwari reportedly attacked a 22-year-old teacher while returning home on September 23 in the police station of Nakhasa.
According to researchers, Tiwari threw acid on her face near Dehpa Village before fled on a scooter.
The survivor has burned burns on 20 to 30 percent of her body and is currently receiving treatment in critical condition in the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
After the attack, the district authorities launched intensive search operation under the Mission Shakti campaign and implement several police teams led by Circle Officer Kuldeep Singh.
Superintendent of police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said that Tiwari was intercepted late on Thursday when he shot on police personnel. Officers took revenge and injured him before he took him in custody.
At the meeting place, the police found a land -made gun, live cartridges and the scooter that it was believed to have been used in crime.
The police said that the accused is being questioned to determine the motive behind the attack, while forensic and other evidence are collected.
The incident has expressed a sharp public concern, with authorities that insure strict action against the perpetrator. Police officers, including SP Bishnoi and Co Singh, reached the stage shortly after the meeting.
The case continues to investigate, even while the victim continues to fight for her life in the hospital. Authorities have said that further legal proceedings will be started after the suspect has been declared suitable by doctors.
