A PS5 update has given credibility to a rumor around a PS6 handheld, while Sony rolls out a greater flexibility for the Dualsense controller.
The prospect of the PlayStation 6 that will be released in the next two years does not feel like a particularly exciting proposition, given the current lack of exclusives of PlayStation 5, but rumors suggest that Sony may have two new consoles in the pipeline.
Since last year there has been growing evidence that Sony suggests that a PlayStation 6 hand hero together with a home console plant. However, it is unclear whether this will be an independent console such as the PS Vita, an external player such as the PlayStation Portal, or a kind of hybrid.
Although Sony has said nothing definitively, a new system update for the PlayStation 5 has verified one detail from a rather rumor connected to the handheld, which suggests that it could actually happen.
In one PlayStation Blog PostSony announced plans to roll out a new Power Saver mode in the PlayStation 5 institutions. The function is not set to go live to a point in the future, but for some reason Sony has taken on to explain how it works now.
“Although this function will not be available during the beta phase, one will be reduced as soon as it is officially launched, PlayStation 5 games support the performance and enable your PlayStation 5 to reduce power consumption when the function is optionally switched on by gamers,” the blog post.
Sony emphasizes the function as part of the general plan of the company to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, but earlier rumors of Leaker Kepler Earlier stated how Sony prepares a ‘reduced bandwidth’ mode for the PlayStation 5 to unite the development of games in the console and the planned handheld.

This Power Saver mode sounds exactly like what was more rumor, so a new handheld suddenly sounds much more likely.
Kepler previously claimed that the power of the portable device will be somewhere between an Xbox series S and a standard PlayStation 5, with 15W SOC on 3NM processors. He also said that the device can perform PlayStation 5 games, but not with the same resolution or frame speed, which is why this Power Saver mode might be needed.
Sony has spoken about the PlayStation 6 earlier and even hinted on a portable console, but there is still no official word left when it could be released. The same leaker, Kepler, estimated that it could be in the second half of 2027.
The Power Saver mode is not the only function that Sony test for the PlayStation 5. Elsewhere in the blog post, the company has announced that it is the possibility to link Dualsense controllers to multiple devices at the same time.
This means that you can connect your controller to your PlayStation 5, PC, Mac or other devices at the same time, without reconnecting when you switch between them.
Beta access for this update is only available in selected countries (US, Canada, VK, Japan, Germany and France) for invited persons, with plans to release it worldwide in the ‘coming months’.
