Coming to Nine in 2026, but not enough spectacle for Britain to see it through to a second season.

A week after Nine announced an Australian version to much fanfare, Britain’s ITV has pulled out Shark: Celebrity-infested waters.

The British series can be seen Motherland star Lucy Punch, comedian Sir Lenny Henry, McFly star Dougie Poynter, Countdown‘s Rachel Riley and comedian Ross Noble.

An unnamed source told The Sun: “The show wasn’t cheap to make given the number of celebrities involved and the fact they had all flown to the Caribbean.

“A second series might have been a possibility if the viewing figures made it worthwhile, but another outing couldn’t be justified on that basis.”

An ITV spokesperson said: “The intention of this series was always to make an impact, raise awareness of shark conservation and change people’s perceptions of these majestic creatures, and we are proud to have achieved that.”

During filming, Ross Noble was bitten by a lemon shark and the group had to withdraw from the sea as the instructors decided things were getting a bit intense.

Although the comedian was unharmed and the shark only nibbled on his wetsuit, celebrities were shocked by the event. Good television perhaps…

The Aussie production, produced by ITV Studios Australia, is also filming in the Caribbean with Scott Cam and Ariarne Titmus as the first announced celebrities, accompanied by Australian shark attack survivor Paul de Gelder.
