UFC legend praises Jake Paul after broken jaw KO loss to Anthony Joshua | BJPenn.com

One UFC Hall of Famer thinks Jake Paul should get some credit for his efforts against Anthony Joshua.

Paul and Joshua clashed in the boxing ring last Saturday. Paul was initially scheduled to face Gervonta “Tank” Davis, but he removed the much smaller fighter from the event due to domestic violence allegations. Joshua stepped up and he scored a crushing knockout victory in the sixth round, breaking Paul’s jaw in the process.

In the aftermath of the boxing match, Anderson Silva believes some credit is due to Paul for hanging on until the end. “The Spider” praised his former foe during the post-fight press conference (via MMAfighting).

“I think Jake has improved a lot and is doing a good job,” Anderson said. “I think Jake did a great job,” he continued. “The big response is for Joshua, not Jake. People have to respect Jake, you know? Imagine Jake is a little [bigger] and had more time to train for this fight. I think Jake has improved a lot, people should respect him. I don’t just say that because I fight here in the company, but it’s because Jake, people have to respect Jake. In every fight in the ring, everyone needs respect.”

Silva actually competed on the Paul vs Joshua undercard. He scored a second-round TKO finish over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

During his post-fight interview with Ariel Helwani, Paul said he plans to continue boxing but will take time off to rest and recover. Paul did not attend the post-fight presser as he went to hospital due to his jaw injury. The X-ray showed that there was indeed a nasty fracture and that he will be in recovery mode throughout the holiday period and the first quarter of 2026.

Joshua also gave Paul his due and even made a suggestion for “El Gallo”’s next fight. Joshua said a possible match between Paul and Ryan Garcia might not be a bad idea.
