UFC legend Jon Jones could retire for good due to left hip concerns: ‘I could be done’

Jon Jones could be pumping the brakes on plans to retire from the UFC.

Jones is a surefire Hall of Famer once he decides to leave professional MMA competition for good. “Bones” already announced his retirement from the competition, but announced comeback plans shortly after. Jones was even open to a wrestling match with his old rival Daniel Cormier before he was diagnosed with arthritis in his left hip.

Although Jones has expressed interest in fighting Alex Pereira on the UFC White House card, some believe “Bones” will ultimately remain retired. In an interview with Helen Yeethe former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight titleholder admitted that his fighting days may be over.

“I think I’m done,” Jones said. “I’m young enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world. I’m healthy enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world, but I’ve always been used to competing with the best in the world. It’s a very high standard to uphold. So maybe it’s about just doing it, doing it well and going out at a really good time.”

Jones also recalled meeting a former fighter who was having memory problems due to the course of his career.

“I don’t want to be one of those fighters who win some and lose some and can’t remember your name,” Jones said. “A few years ago I met a fighter. He didn’t know when his birthday was. That’s a lot of fighting. I’m not even there yet and I don’t even want to know what that looks like.”

If Jones is indeed done, he will go down in history as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. While he tops many lists, others argue that past anti-doping violations should not be ignored. Regardless, Jones’ abilities as an elite MMA star were never in question.
