Andrew Tackett claimed the UFC BJJ Welterweight title in June and was back in action on Thursday evening to defend his throne in the main event of UFC BJJ 2 in Las Vegas. And again he still left as a champion, this time after an exciting game with Renato Canuto at the UFC Apex.

Canuto shot for a double leg as soon as the game started, but Tackett immediately got up again. Canuto threatened with a kimura after an insane scrambling, but Tackett had a good defense. Tackett shot back with Kimura and arm-triangle choke attempts and Canuto, but gave Tackett a chance to lock up a D’Arce-Choke and Force Canuto to give up.

Andrew’s brother William Tackett came in for the third to the preliminary match of the evening opposite Kyle Chambers and it didn’t last long. Tackett passed the guard and attacked with an arm-triangle choke, who forced rooms to give up his back and to tap a second-hand choke.

The inaugural UFC BJJ Light Heavyweight title was on the line in the CO-Main event with UFC Fight Pass Invitational veteran Mason Fowler who has the performance of two-time Quintet winner David Garmo, and it didn’t last long.

A black belt under Caio Terra, Fowler insured a single pick -branchedown for a minute in the game and quickly went back. Fowler had both hooks over the clock with more than three minutes, but only needed a few seconds to enclose the chake and force the crane.

Renato’s wife Raquel Canuto, a triple ibjjf no-gi world champion, took the card with Morgan Black. They fought on the feet in front of a Takedown and black immediately went against to finish on top, but Canuto had the button bar deep, so she had no choice but to tap away.

Mikey Musumeci, who defends his Bantamweight title against an opponent still to be found on October 2 at UFC BJJ 3, had good reasons to celebrate Thursday evening. First his protector Jalen Fonacier briefly worked by Everton Teixeira with an inside heel finish. Mikey’s sister Tammi Musumeci then participated and won a decision about Leilani Bernales.

Musumeci was back in the corner with the legendary Jiu-Jitsu champion Rubens Charles “Cobrinha”, who coached his son Kennedy Maciel against colleague Brazilian lightweight Breath Barreto.

Barreto had a good attempt at heel in the first place, but Maciel successfully defended it. The high action in the opening round led to a slower rhythm in round two, with maciel usually staying on top check. “Cobrinha Jr.” Halfway through the last round for a bruising and a second -hand choke late in the round. Although Barreto successfully defended both attacks, it was enough for Maciel to guarantee the victory of the decision after time.
