Ailin Perez (12-2) has thrown her name in the mix to fight against Norma Dumont (12-2) after former UFC Ladies Bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington was forced to withdraw from the upcoming Noche UFC 3-Vechtkaart in September.
Pennington made the announcement on Instagram and stated:
“This is hard to say …
I have been at UFC for 12 years, 26 fights, and I never had to pull myself out of a fight.
I have been dealing with a neck injury for a while. My last Vechtkamp, I had a procedure in September to get through it and to get in that octagon at the beginning of October. This camp … it just went one after the other.
I am through and through a competitor, but I also have to take care of my health if I want to continue to do this in the right way.
So yes … I am stripped to say that I have to withdraw from this fight. Apologies to the fans, @UFC and my opponent @Norma_dumont_mma, I am back, and I would still like to share that octagon with Norma if the time is correct. I hope she gets a replacement opponent and her chance to compete is not stripped.
Thank you to everyone who drives me through the highlights and the lows. It means more than you know. ❤️
Test forces do not break me – they build me up. “
When Perez, who is known to tend to work in and out of the Achthoek, took advantage of the situation and asked Dumont if she was afraid of a loot fight?
“Raquel Pennington is injured and outside the Norma fight. Norma will not come across me at UFC Rio. What is the deal, Norma? Do you not want five rounds with me in Brazil? Afraid of a loot fight?”
Perez later said: “Norma Dumont has blocked me and has not yet made an answer 🤣 No one you want to fight, has a better ranking than me, what is your excuse now? We have the same record and the same profit treak. You are scared.”
