Two US, one world team to participate in Round Robin Tournament on 2026 NBA All-Star

The NBA implements a Round-Robin Tournament format for the 2026 All-Star game with three eight-players teams, with two US squadrons that are confronted with one international team. ESPN reported on Wednesday that the Union of the League and Players presented the new structure to the competition committee.

The format received positive feedback during commission discussions in which governors, team managers and players were involved. Sources confirmed that the three teams would compete on 15 February in quarter matches of 12 minutes in the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

The All-Star Game 2026 is broadcast on NBC and shift from Sunday evening to an afternoon start time. The event coincides with the Winter Olympics and takes place at the location for the 2028 Summer Games, creating an international atmosphere.

Adam Silver endorsed the international concept earlier in April. He emphasized the opportunity to create meaningful international competition instead of traditional All-Star formats.

“It offers us a huge opportunity to do something with an international competition instead of the traditional All-Star formats that we used,” Silver said at the time

Last year’s four-team Single elimination tournament with 40-point target scores attracted mixed reviews from participants. Various players criticized the frequent breaks during and between competitions, so that competition officials were explored alternatives.

The US versus world structure benefits international players who are looking for All-Star recognition. About 70% of the NBA players are American, making it easier for foreign talent to earn schedules in the new format.

The Round-Robin system aims to maintain the competitive intensity and at the same time tackle the symptoms of the size. Each team plays meaningful minutes against quality institution during the event.
