Two Brothers Organic Farms’ A2 grown ghee gets India’s first glyphosate residue-free certification

Pune-based Two Brothers Organic Farms has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first ghee in India to receive an independent Glyphosate Residue-Free certification with its A2 Cultured Ghee.

The certification was awarded by DetoxProject.org, an internationally recognized third-party organization that verifies the absence of detectable glyphosate residues through rigorous laboratory testing of the final product.

The implications of uncontrolled glyphosate use extend beyond crops and soil; they end up throughout the food chain. When herbicide residues remain in soil, water and forage, dairy animals are exposed indirectly through what they graze and consume. Spray drift, contaminated wash water and residues in grasses and feed can affect animal health and over time affect the quality and integrity of dairy products.

Glyphosate is one of the world’s most widely used herbicides, originally introduced in the 1970s and later widely adopted worldwide following the introduction of glyphosate-tolerant crops.

Satyajit Hange, co-founder of Two Brothers Organic Farms, said: “Today there is a growing shift towards organic food in India, but there is very little conversation about what chemicals like glyphosate are, how widely they are used and whether they are tested for at all. For us, this certification was about closing that gap and moving the conversation from intention to evidence.”

He added: “We believe something consumed every day by families and children deserves the highest level of scrutiny.”

Ajinkya Hange, co-founder, added: “Food safety today must be based on transparency, not trust alone. As evidence around chemical residues continues to grow, we believe testing and disclosure should become the norm, not the exception, in Indian food.”
