Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said Monday that he would certainly support President Donald Trump taking military action in Iran if it is deemed necessary.

“Definitely, absolutely,” he said on CNN. “If it makes more sense, absolutely. I think I was the only Democrat who fully supported our attack on their Iranian nuclear facilities last year.”

“Without these types of attacks, Iran could have acquired a nuclear bomb. I hope we can all agree that Iran should never have acquired an atomic bomb,” he added.

‘Iran is one of the biggest terrorists in the world [underwriters]and now you have that toxic regime now spiraling – so why wouldn’t we want to support that and those brave protesters,” the Democrat added. “They’ve probably killed over 600 people by now, so why now? [wouldn’t] Do we want to take the kind of targeted action that could break that regime?”

Host Kate Bolduan said Trump administration officials said potential U.S. attacks could undermine protests and increase support for Iran.

Fetterman again said he supported the strikes if they made sense, and said he was inspired by the courage of the protesters.

“I don’t know why we can’t all support that, support them and bring that terrible regime to its knees now,” he said.

“They are so desperate. Now they have killed the internet and now they are mowing down their own citizens,” he continued. “I think we can all agree that the world would be better, safer and more just if you could break that regime.”

Rep. Pat Ryan, D-N.Y., followed Fetterman’s appearance on CNN and said his fellow Democrat’s comments raised his blood pressure.

“That makes me angry… I was on the receiving end of 27 months in combat in Iraq where I lost friends and many innocent Iraqis lost their lives,” said Ryan, who called the Iranian regime evil but said it was wrong to bypass Congress on military action.

Trump said Sunday that Iran is “beginning to cross” U.S. red lines amid anti-regime protests, citing reports of civilian deaths and warning that any attack on U.S. interests would be met with overwhelming force as his administration weighs what he called “very strong options.”

“It seems like they’re starting to do that, and people seem to have been killed who shouldn’t be killed,” he told reporters. “These are violent – if you call them leaders, I don’t know if they are leaders or just if they rule by force. And we are looking at some very strong options. We will make a decision.”
