TVR is back and it could be electric

TVR is back – again. This time for real. Maybe. The British sports car manufacturer that seems impossible to kill has a new owner, less than a decade after businessman Les Edgar tried (and failed) to revive the company for a second time.

Charge Holdings has reportedly acquired the TVR name. The company is the same company behind Charge Cars, which introduced an updated Ford Mustang with a fully electric powertrain in 2022. Charge Holdings now plans to take a similar approach with TVR.

According to multiple reports, Charge is looking to produce and sell the eye-catching Griffith concept that was unveiled in 2022. The move will be part of a ‘phased restructuring’, he said Top equipmentwith an “electrified” powertrain replacing the concept’s original 5.0-liter V8, which produced 500 horsepower. The company stated:

“TVR will remain focused on delivering the new Griffith to customers, continuing its legacy of high-performance internal combustion sports cars.”

Details are still scarce, but CEO Paul Abercrombie promises that more information will be revealed early next year. If the new ownership sticks, the long-awaited Griffith revival could finally reach production – the V-8 probably won’t be included.
