Trump makes cryptic six-word comment about peace deal after anger at Ukraine

Just one day after criticizing Ukraine’s “ungrateful” leaders, Donald Trump expressed hope that a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine could be near. In a post on Truth Social on Monday, the US president said: “Something good could happen.”

Trump’s full social media post, published on the morning of November 24, read: “Is it really possible for major progress to be made in Russia-Ukraine peace talks??? Don’t believe it until you see it, but something good could happen. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

This came as international leaders met in Geneva in an attempt to reach a peace deal on terms acceptable to both Russia, which unlawfully attacked Ukraine in February 2022, and Kiev.

As reports emerged on Saturday of a US-brokered 28-point peace deal, Sir Keir Starmer and European leaders suggested more work needed to be done to bring peace to Ukraine.

A joint statement issued by the European Council said: “We welcome the continued US efforts to bring peace to Ukraine. The original draft of the 28-point plan contains important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace. We therefore believe that the draft is a foundation that will require additional work.”

The next day, Trump launched a scathing attack on Ukraine’s leaders, claiming they had “not expressed any gratitude” for US peace efforts, while also criticizing the Europeans for using Russian oil and gas.
