President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he is withdrawing the nomination of Tech billionaire Jared Isaacman, an employee of Trump adviser Elon Musk, to lead NASA and said that he made the decision after a “thorough assessment” of Isaacman’s “earlier associations”.

It was unclear what Trump meant and the White House did not immediately respond to an e -mail request for an explanation.

“After a thorough assessment of previous associations, I hereby deduct the nomination of Jared Isaacman to lead NASA,” Trump wrote on his social media site. “I will soon announce a new nominated nominated that will be laid out and put America in the first place in space.” During the presidential transition in December, Trump announced that he had chosen Isaacman as the next manager of the Space Agency. Isaacman, 42, has been a close employee at Musk since he bought his first chartered flight on Musk’s SpaceX Company in 2021.

He is the CEO and founder of Shift4, a credit card processing company. He also bought a series of space lights from SpaceX and carried out the first private space walk. SpaceX has extensive contracts with NASA.

The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved the appointment of Isaacman at the end of April and a vote by the entire Senate was expected soon.

Musk seemed to regret Trump’s decision after the news broke out earlier on Saturday and it was posted on the X site that “it is rare to find someone so competent and kind-hearted.”

SpaceX is owned by Musk, an employee and adviser to Trump campaign who announced this week that he will leave the government at the helm of the Ministry of Government Efficiency of Doge after a few months. Trump has set up the agency to lower the size of the government and to lead Musk.

Semafor was the first to report that the White House had decided to draw Isaacman’s nomination.
